Pan Am Games
They're almost here! The legendary Pan Am Games that are to take place here, in Toronto this summer, are all anyone seems to be talking about. Although we have recently realized that we know almost nothing about them, so this week you may have the pleasure of learning a bit about these mysterious games. So, after some research, here is what we can tell you. Much like the Olympics, these games happen every 4 years. However, we typically only hold them in the summer, but there was one held here in Winter, in 1990. Now though we may call them the Pan Am games, their official tittle is the Pan American Games because only the "Americas" participate in them. However, that makes them sound rather small, when actually there will be 42 countries from North and South America that will be competing in this year's games. Also, much like the Olympics, there will be an opening and closing ceremony, with multiple medallion ceremonies. Athletes will be competing for the gold, silver and bronze medals in their respective sports. Let's all root for Canada this year and we will hopefully get some of those top positions! Go Canada Go!! Fun Fact: the mascot named Pachi, is indeed not a porcupine but a hedgehog. He also has 42 quills for each country competing in the games. |
May the 4th be with you.
On April 16th, the second Star Wars trailer came out and it soon had 9 million likes on YouTube. The trailer was visually pleasing and made everyone excited for the new movie. It began with a wide shot of a hover-craft speeding through the desert until eventually it passes a HUGE crashed imperial spaceship, which was the best part of the entire trailer. The trailer has introduced some new characters and a new enemy with a red lightsaber. It even brought back some old ones, like an all-time favourite Chewbacca, some unique alien landscapes, and some insight on what is going to take place in the cinemas when it comes out this December. The trailer has some good looking CGI and an interesting mix of special effects. I hope that on May the 4th, they release another trailer. By Noah Fischer |
